SECTION 1
FIVE
Ws
The Five Ws, Five Ws and one H, or the Six Ws are questions whose answers
are considered basic in information-gathering. They are often mentioned
in journalism (cf. news style), research, and police investigations. They
constitute a formula for getting the complete story on a subject. According
to the principle of the Five Ws, a report can only be considered complete
if it answers these questions starting with an interrogative word:
Who did that?
What happened?
When did it take place?
Where did it take place?
Why did that happen?
Some authors add a sixth question, “how”, to the list, though "how" can also
be covered by "what", "when", or "where":
How did it happen?
Each question should have a factual answer — facts necessary to include for a
report to be considered complete.[4] Importantly, none of these questions can
be answered with a simple "yes" or "no".

SECTION 3
THE WHO
WHAT, WHEN,
WHERE, WHY
OF A STORY
One of the best practices for writers is to follow "The 5Ws" guideline,
by investigating the Who, What, Where, When and Why of a story.
If you can’t identify what makes your story unique and interesting,
chances are nobody else will either.
Who is driving the story? Who is it about? Who is affected? Who benefits?
Who loses?
What has happened? What are the consequences? What does this mean for the reader?
Where is this taking place (building, neighborhood, city, country)? Where should
readers go to learn more?
When did it happen (time of day, day, month, year)? When was the last update? When
can you expect to learn more? When will the effects be felt?
Why did this event take place? Why is this important in the big picture? Why should
readers care?
