SECTION 1
EDUCATION
Education in the largest sense is any act
or experience that has a formative effect
on the mind, character or physical ability
of an individual.
In its technical sense, education is the
process by which society deliberately
transmits its accumulated knowledge,
skills and values from one generation
to another.
Teachers in educational institutions
direct the education of students and
might draw on many subjects, including:
reading,
writing,
science,
history.
This process is sometimes called schooling
when referring to the education of teaching
only a certain subject, usually as professors
at institutions of higher learning.
There is also education in fields for those
who want specific vocational skills, such as
those required to be a pilot.
In addition there is an array of education
possible at the informal level, such as in
museums and libraries, with the Internet
and in life experience.
Many non-traditional education options are
now available and continue to evolve.

SECTION 2
TYPES
OF
GRANTS
School grants vary in amounts depending
on the type of grant you are receiving.
Your school may have some grants that
they award to outstanding or students
who demonstrate financial need in
addition to the grants that you receive
as part of your federal aid package.

SECTION 3
TRAINING
The term training refers to the acquisition
of knowledge, skills, and competencies as a
result of the teaching of vocational or
practical skills and knowledge that relate
to specific useful competencies. It forms
the core of apprenticeships and provides
the backbone of content at institutes of
technology (also known as technical colleges
or polytechnics).
Some commentators[which?] use a similar term
for workplace learning to improve performance:
"training and development". One can generally
categorize such training as on-the-job or
off-the-job:

SECTION 4
RETRAINING
Vocational rehabilitation or retraining is
the process of learning a new skill or trade,
often in response to a change in the economic
environment. Generally it reflects changes in
profession rather than an "upward" movement
in the same field.
There is some controversy surrounding the use
of retraining to offset economic changes caused
by free trade and automation. For example, most
studies show that displaced factory workers in
the United States on the average have lower
wages after retraining to other positions when
a factory is closed due to offshoring. A similar
issue surrounds movement from technical jobs to
liaison jobs due to offshore outsourcing. Such
changes may also favor certain personality types
over others, due to the changing tasks and skills
required.

SECTION 5
ON
THE
JOB
TRAINING
On-the-job training takes place in a normal
working situation, using the actual tools,
equipment, documents or materials that
trainees will use when fully trained.
On-the-job training has
a general reputation as
most effective for
vocational work.
SECTION 6
OFF
THE
JOB
TRAINING
Off-the-job training takes place away from
normal work situations — implying that the
employee does not count as a directly
productive worker while such training takes
place.
Off-the-job training has the advantage that
it allows people to get away from work and
concentrate more thoroughly on the training
itself. This type of training has proven
more effective[citation needed] in
inculcating concepts and ideas.

SECTION 7
APPRENTICESHIP
Apprenticeship is a system of training a
new generation of practitioners of a skill.
Apprentices (or in early modern usage
"prentices") or protégés build their careers
from apprenticeships.
Most of their training is done while working
for an employer who helps the apprentices
learn their trade, in exchange for their
continuing labour for an agreed period after
they become skilled. Theoretical education
may also be involved, informally via the
workplace and/or by attending vocational
schools while still being paid by the
employer.

SECTION 8
INTERNSHIP
Internship is a system of on-the-job
training for white-collar jobs, similar
to an apprenticeship. Interns are
usually college or university students,
but they can also be high school students
or post graduate adults seeking skills
for a new career; they may also be as
young as middle school students in some
areas.
Student internships provide opportunities
for students to gain experience in their
field, determine if they have an interest
in a particular career, create a network
of contacts, or gain school credit.
Internships provide employers with cheap
or free labor for (typically) low-level
tasks. Some interns find permanent,
paid employment with the companies in
which they interned. Their value to
the company may be increased by the
fact that they need little to no
training.
An internship may be either paid, unpaid
or partially paid (in the form of a
stipend).
Paid internships are most
common in the:
medical,
architecture,
science,
engineering,
law,
business
(especially accounting
and finance),
technology,
advertising fields.
Internships in non-profit organizations
such as charities and think tanks are
often unpaid, volunteer positions.
Internships may be part-time or
full-time; typically, they are
part-time during the university year
and full-time in the summer. They
usually last 6–12 weeks, but can be
shorter or longer based on the
company for which they intern.

SECTION 9
CRAFT
A craft is a branch of profession that
requires some particular kind of skilled
work. In historical sense, particularly
as pertinent to the Medieval history
and earlier, the term is usually applied
towards people occupied in small-scale
production of goods.

Grants
How To:
Where to Find
Money to Enhance
Educational
Opportunities?
10 Tips for
Grantwriters:
Adapted from Grants and Grantwriting by,
Nancy Powell in the Teachers Guide to
Cyberspace.
1. Have a great idea that stretches the minds of
students and challenges teachers to extend past
their comfort zones.
Your program or project needs to be unique, have
some sound benefits for students, and be able to
be maintained by the district and/or replicated
by others.
2. Find a funder and a grant that seems to fit
the ideas that you've only dreamed of.
Look in your community first and then expand
your search.
3. If time permits, make every attempt to gather
a team of educational personnel, business people,
community members, and parents who are or could
become interested in the program.
4. Read the grant application and guidelines very
carefully, taking special note of things that seem
to be important to the funders.
5. Remember and remind funders who the grant will
ultimately benefit - your students!
6. Address each and every question posed in a clear,
succinct way.
Make sure to use the terminology found in the grant
application and stay away from educational and the
technical jargon.
7. Prepare a budget that anyone can understand.
A detailed budget is usually preferred over a
general one.
8. Check, check, and triple check to make sure the
grant application is complete and that you meet the
deadline.
9. Remember that not all applications are awarded
funding, but if your project is one you truly want
to make happen, you can find a funder.
Don't hesitate to call or write to get the reviewers
comments if your grant is not funded.
10. Write a thank you note no matter what the outcome.
