LGBT
LGBT is an initialism that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender.
In use since the 1990s, the term is an adaptation of the initialism LGB, which
itself started replacing the term gay when in reference to the LGBT community
beginning in the mid-to-late 1980s, as many felt the term gay community did
not accurately represent all those to whom it referred. The initialism has
become mainstream as a self-designation and has been adopted by the majority
of sexuality and gender identity-based community centers and media in the
United States and some other English-speaking countries. It is also used in
some other countries in whose languages the initialism is meaningful, such
as France and Argentina.
The initialism LGBT is intended to emphasize a diversity of sexuality and
gender identity-based cultures and is sometimes used to refer to anyone who
is non-heterosexual or non-cisgender instead of exclusively to people who
are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. To recognize this inclusion, a
popular variant adds the letter Q for those who identify as queer and/or
are questioning their sexual identity as LGBTQ, recorded since 1996.

LGBT AGEING
LGBT ageing addresses issues and concerns related to ageing and
minority sexualities or gender identities. Older LGBT* people are
marginalised by: a) younger LGBT people, because of ageism and age
discrimination; and b) by older age social networks because of
heteronormativity (the assumption that heterosexuality is the norm),
heterosexism (the privileging of heterosexuality), biphobia,
homophobia and transphobia (prejudice and discrimination towards
LGBT people).

SECTION 4
HOMOSEXUALITY
Homosexuality refers to sexual behavior with or attraction to
people of the same sex, or to a homosexual orientation. As a
sexual orientation, homosexuality refers to "having sexual and
romantic attraction primarily or exclusively to members of
one’s own sex"; "it also refers to an individual’s sense of
personal and social identity based on those attractions,
behaviors expressing them, and membership in a community of
others who share them.
"Homosexaulity, bisexuality, and heterosexuality together make
up the three main classifications of sexual orientation and
are the factors in the Heterosexual-homosexual continuum. The
exact proportion of the population that is homosexual is
difficult to estimate reliably, but most recent studies place
it at 2–7%.
Sexual orientation is also distinguished from other aspects of
sexuality, "including biological sex (the anatomical, physiological,
and genetic characteristics associated with being male or female),
gender identity (the psychological sense of being male, female or
other), and social gender role (adherence to cultural norms defining
feminine and masculine behavior)."
Homosexuality as a sexual identity refers to sexual identity as
a gay or lesbian person. In a narrow sense, gay refers to male
homosexuality, but it often is used in its broadest sense,
especially in media headlines and reports, to refer to
homosexuality in general. Lesbian, however, always denotes
female homosexuality.

SECTION 5
GAY
Gay is a term that primarily refers to a homosexual person or
the trait of being homosexual. The term was originally used to
refer to feelings of being "carefree", "happy", or "bright and
showy". The term's use as a reference to homosexuality may date
as early as the late 19th century, but its use gradually
increased in the 20th century. In modern English, gay has come
to be used as an adjective, and as a noun, referring to the people,
especially to gay males, and the practices and cultures associated
with homosexuality.
By the end of the 20th century, the word gay was recommended by major
LGBT groups and style guides to describe people attracted to members
of the same sex. At about the same time, a new, pejorative use became
prevalent in some parts of the world. In the Anglosphere, this
connotation, among younger speakers, has a derisive meaning equivalent
to rubbish or stupid (as in "That's so gay."). In this use, the word
does not mean "homosexual", so it can be used, for example, to refer
to an inanimate object or abstract concept of which one disapproves.
This usage can also refer to weakness or unmanliness. When used in
these ways, the extent to which it still retains connotations of
homosexuality has been debated and harshly criticized.

SECTION 6
LESBIAN
A lesbian is a female who expresses romantic or sexual attraction
to other females, whether primarily or exclusively, or a female
who self-identifies as lesbian. The term is also used as a noun,
to refer to girls or women who are characterized by others as
having the primary attribute of female homosexuality, or as an
adjective, to describe characteristics of an object or activity
related to female same-sex attraction.

SECTION 7
BISEXUALITY
Bisexuality is romantic attraction, sexual attraction or sexual
behavior toward both males and females. The term is mainly used
in the context of human attraction to denote romantic or sexual
feelings toward both men and women.
It may also be defined as encompassing romantic or sexual attraction
to people of all gender identities or to a person irrespective of
that person's biological sex or gender, which is sometimes termed
pansexuality.
Bisexuality is one of the three main classifications of sexual
orientation along with heterosexuality and homosexuality, which
are each parts of the heterosexual–homosexual continuum. A
bisexual identity does not necessarily equate to equal sexual
attraction to both sexes; commonly, people who have a distinct
but not exclusive sexual preference for one sex over the other
also identify themselves as bisexual.

SECTION 8
TRANSGENDER
Transgender is the state of one's gender identity (self-identification
as woman, man, neither or both) or gender expression not matching one's
assigned sex (identification by others as male, female or intersex based
on physical/genetic sex).
Transgender is independent of sexual orientation; transgender people may
identify as heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, pansexual, polysexual,
or asexual; some may consider conventional sexual orientation labels
inadequate or inapplicable to them.
The precise definition for transgender is changing but nevertheless
includes:
"Of, relating to, or designating a person whose identity does not conform
unambiguously to conventional notions of male or female gender roles, but
combines or moves between these."
"People who were assigned a sex, usually at birth and based on their genitals,
but who feel that this is a false or incomplete description of themselves."
"Non-identification with, or non-presentation as, the sex (and assumed gender)
one was assigned at birth."

around the full or partial reversal of gender roles.

SECTION 10
SAME-SEX
RELATIONSHIP
A Same-sex relationship can take one of several forms, from romantic
and sexual, to non-romantic close relationships between two persons
of the same sex.
The term same-sex relationship may be used when the sexual orientation
of participants in a same-sex relationship is not known. As bisexual
or pansexual people may participate in same-sex relationships, some
activists claim that referring to a same-sex relationship as a "gay
relationship" or a "lesbian relationship" is a form of bisexual erasure.
The term same-sex marriage is used similarly.

SECTION 11
HOMOPHOBIA
Homophobia
Homophobia encompasses a range of negative attitudes and feelings toward
homosexuality or people who are identified or perceived as being lesbian,
gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT). It has been defined as contempt,
prejudice, aversion, hatred or antipathy, may be based on irrational fear,
and is sometimes related to religious beliefs.
